Third Time's the Charm

Exactly eight days ago, I posted about my weekend of ministry. Eight days prior to the post of the first reference, I posted about my weekend of ministry. Guess what this is about?

This past weekend I joined seven other MBBC students on a trip to
Amazing Grace Baptist Camp. We were able to counsel, lead games, do skits, clean, hang out, sing, be challenged spiritually, and have a great time. The speaker was Brian Samms, and God definitely used him to speak to the hearts of both the teens and us. The camp was filled to capacity (guys were sleeping on the floor), and many teens responded to the invitation after the sermon on Saturday.

It's hard to describe briefly why these trips are so much fun. The eleven-hour drive through the night Thursday shouldn't have been fun. Especially for Nic and Katie, the drivers. The running from one event to the next without any rest or the preparation of a good night's rest shouldn't have been fun. The jump in the hypothermia-inducing lake at midnight certainly didn't appear enjoyable. But they all were. And so was the trip to the plaza in Kansas City, and getting to see old friends like Matt Jones, former camp director now on deputation in preparation for going to Thailand as a missionary. Do these things once, and you'll understand it. But you won't really be able to describe it either I don't think.

Unfortunately, it is probably the last weekend I will be able to set aside for ministry this semester. Don't misunderstand, I plan to minister any way God will use me, even during the week (can He do that?). This is just the last time I'll be setting aside a weekend to focus all my time on a particular ministry opportunity.

There will be advantages to unplanned weekends. I could use them for silly things like doing homework, starting projects, preparing for my next debate, and maybe even spending time with friends. My GPA will definitely thank me. Bobbi (my partner for this past debate--more on that later--and the next debate) will be happy. But nothing can surpass the joy of seeing God use you to accomplish His purpose in someone else's life. So, with a reluctant heart I move back to those things that dominate the weekends for most college students.

About Me

  • I'm justinic9 .
  • Currently calling Changchun, Jilin, China home.
  • You'll really find out the most about me by reading my posts, but a little background never hurt. I just graduated from Maranatha Baptist Bible College with a B.S. in Humanities. I plan to go to grad school eventually, but I'm taking a few years to teach English in China before I go back to school. And, um, you should just go read the blog now.

Contact Me

I'm afraid I have new rules about contacting me. In order to protect the sensitive nature of our ministry, please do not discuss spiritual or political things when contacting me. Make a note--we'll talk about it when I get back.
