Wake Me Up When the Summer Comes

School is done. I know you're all aware of that, but I just thought I'd share my realization of the fact. I knew it too, but the busyness of finals, graduation, moving out of my room, and open houses kept concept internalization just beyond my reach. It was like trying to eat in a dream—I saw the food going in my mouth, but I couldn't taste it.

I rolled over and got a whiff of frying bacon this weekend hanging with Josh. I bought much-needed sandals for this summer and killed time being unproductive. Jumping on the trampoline got me to hit snooze.

Ensemble training started this morning, and I found myself sitting in a classroom all morning again. Practice in the afternoon kept my mind occupied with threats of extreme mental violence. I was settling back in.

I woke up just after dinner—I was bored. Several good books and important projects were waiting for me in my room. But I wanted to do something. Something active. Something fun. Something undeniably unproductive. Joelle, Nathan and I went looking for that something. Sitting on the triangle wasn't as satisfying as we'd hoped it would be so I got the frisbee out of my room, and we spent the next two hours or more flipping a piece of plastic around the quad. We ran when we felt it. The coffee I was drinking was real enough to burn the tip of my tongue. My sandals slowed me down. I didn't want to be slow. I took them off.

I love having dirty feet.

"I love dirty feet."

Honestly, that has to be the funniest thing you have ever said, in your entire life. Ever.

Oops, I misquoted.

"I love having dirty feet."

Even funnier.

I'm glad you love the simple things of life. Enjoy your dirty feet. I'm a barefoot girl and I know what you mean!
