Hangin' Wid da Guys
Call me introverted. Socially inept. Independent. Introspective. Weird. Whatever it's called, I've never really needed to be around other people. Give me a good book, and I can sit and ignore the outside world without difficulty or remorse. Until recently, that is.
I'm losing that aspect of my personality. It's still there, but not as strong. I used to be able to close myself in my mental library where no one talked, listened to music, or otherwise disturbed the reader. Thursday night, I planned to visit said library and write a paper for Shakespeare class. I had to have it turned in by Friday for Mr. Midcalf to proof it once before it was graded. (Skipping the extra proofing doesn't officially hurt the grade; but those of you that have had Mr. Midcalf grade one of your papers know it's almost a necessity if you want an A.)
Long story short, I had friends visit me in my room. [More on that in future posts.] We talked, drank espresso, and ate Easter candy. Vinny, the Jewish samurai from Brooklyn stopped by for a while. We all agreed Chris's disco ball added to the festive ambience. Everything from true Christianity to campus rumors controlled the conversation until 1 am was a distant memory. At that point, I realized I would not be getting any paper done.
I don't blame my friends. Especially since I have made a point of letting them know they are welcome in my room any time. The problem is that I am losing my ability to ignore people. It's too bad—it came in handy sometimes—but this social thing is actually kind of fun.

At 3:48 PM,
Yeah. you got to watch that vinny. He'll cut your. . . you know, never mind.
At 9:56 PM,
yeah, but you never hang with me and I have a trampoline so there!!!
At 11:11 PM,
I'm sure you've gotten used to it by now. I quasi-blame it on the "RA Thing" you are supposed to be there for your guys and be open for them and what not. but once in a while you just need to lock the door and get stuff done without being disturbed. the problem is knowing when to do that, because, afterall, how you can tell a need by a time?
At 8:24 PM,
Yeah, I've heard all about your locked door of late. Hence the multiplicity of guys from your floor in my room. It's OK, I don't have a girl to keep me from the guys.
At 12:06 AM,
As an EXTREAM socail bug, I'm glad to hear that you are "getting out there". I'll have to make a point of saying hi next time I see you rather than just continueing on my way because I asume you're on mission in your own world;-)
At 5:26 PM,
